Sanity

I got off the expressway at my usual spot, and down the ramp to the street. Once you get to the street there are three lanes. The one on the right, right turns only. The lane on the left, left turns only, and the middle lane where you can turn right, left or go straight.
This may sound crazy, but I always plan on using the middle lane to make a right turn. I have my right turn signal on, knowing being in the middle position seems to confuses some.
Lately, the last three times exactly, the vehicle in the right lane would continue on straight as I would make my right. The funny thing is, I sensed that they would be doing this, which probably avoided crashes.
The weird thing is, I believe I set myself up for the near miss, and I have no idea why.
The question is, why would I continue to use the middle lane knowing what had happened on previous days, even though I'm in the right!?
